Community Activity
Schlesinger Associates in the Community
The Schlesinger Associates team have always had the greatest interest in the local and wider communities in which we work. We would like to share with you some of our on-going community activities that our team have got involved with that go some way to making difference.
The Girls are Running for the Boys
This Fall, the girls of THE RESEARCH HOUSE Team in London, took part in the 2008 Adidas Women's 5K Challenge, a fun run for women of all ages which took place Hyde Park, London. As this was a women only race, we chose to raise funds for Prostate Cancer. Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men in the UK. The Prostate Cancer Research Foundation aims to 'fund the best independent worldwide research into the causes of prostate cancer; to offer better outcomes to men diagnosed with prostate cancer and to enable all specialists to share information.'

Meanwhile Across the Pond...
Our Chicago team took to the City to support and raise funds for the AIDS Run and Walk. An unprecedented number of participants registered to fight AIDS and HIV in Chicago and enjoy a beautiful morning in Grant Park.
The AIDS Run & Walk Chicago is a 5K event benefiting the AIDS Foundation of Chicago. While the 2008 event is over, it’s not too late to donate — go to www.AIDSrunWalk.org to make a donation today. Additional information on the AIDS Foundation of Chicago at www.AIDSchicago.org.
Schlesinger Associates Team Joins Habitat for Humanity in New Orleans
This spring saw Schlesinger Associates' first volunteer initiative with Habitat for Humanity. A team of five deserving staff headed for New Orleans to make a difference in the life of Hurricane Katrina Victims.
Our team joined other volunteers constructing housing for families who lost their homes and so much more two and a half years ago. With the day starting at 6.30am and the sun beating down while they worked on houses, this trip was no holiday and the team were proud to find they had set a new record for the fastest time for siding a house.
During the week-long project, the team discovered that the hard work brought rewards not just in the form of new skills and the satisfaction of home building but in having the opportunity to meet the local community and truly understand their experiences and why their work was so valuable.
Team Habitat were: Kim Johanson and Ryan Thorpe from New Jersey,
Matt Fenwick from Chicago Downtown, Mike Clark from Chicago O'Hare, and Scott Coogan from Philadelphia.
Climbing Stairs for Respiratory Health
Chicago's The 11th Annual 'Hustle Up the Hancock' took place in February and members of the Schlesinger Associates Chicago Stair Climbing Team successfully made their way up the 94 flights of stairs, raising over $630 for the Respiratory Health Association of Metropolitan Chicago. This charity funds research at major Chicago area medical institutions for causes, prevention and treatment of lung diseases. The spectacular view and every dollar made was sweet reward for the team's aching quads and hamstrings.
