Environmental Activity
Schlesinger Associates is Thinking Green
At Schlesinger Associates, we deeply respect the environment. And we are increasing our efforts to protect it. From our facility operations to the products we use, from conserving resources to choosing green vendors; we're doing our part to keep the earth healthy.
Each Location Appoints an Environmental Representative
Schlesinger Associates has a forward thinking Environmental Committee examining each area of the business, promoting responsible working practices and striving at every level to reduce our company's environmental footprint.
Reducing Our Waste
We monitor the waste we produce and work to minimize it. We continually increase the amount we recycle and seek to improve our recycling procedures. Whenever possible, we will ensure the goods and services we purchase used, managed and disposed of in an environmentally responsible way. We monitor our energy consumption and continue to minimize it conserving energy
Significant Reduction in Printed Materials and Mailings
Our monthly e-update, rather than traditional mail campaigns, our digital signage, our introduction of pdf invoices are just a few ways in which we are keeping you in the picture while THINKING GREEN.
Recycled Materials
Where we do need to use paper to communicate, we now do so, wherever possible, on 100% recycled paper and card. Schlesinger now seeks environmentally-friendly items made from recycled materials. If you have not had one of our THINK GREEN Bags for Life and would like one, let us know.
Selecting Green Suppliers
Suppliers that bid for our business now also need to prove their commitment to the environment as well as the quality and pricing.
Continuing in Our Endeavors to Think Green
Green News
IN 2008 SCHLESINGER DONATED FUNDS FOR A TOTAL OF 2,000 TREES WITH ARBOR DAY FOUNDATION (December 2008)
While we are increasing our efforts to Reduce, Re-use and Recycle in our business decisions, we recognize that we cannot eliminate our global footprint and that we must offset some energy consumption created by ourselves and our clients using our facilities. With this in mind, Schlesinger Associates has donated funds to Arbor Day Foundation for the planting of 2,000 national forest trees throughout 2008. This initiative not only contributes to our goal of investing funds in tree planting to absorb CO2 but also to restore the natural beauty and essential wildlife habitat to these areas. Record wildfire seasons in recent years have destroyed millions of trees in forests around the USA. Many areas have burned so severely that replanting is necessary. Yet much of the US Forest Service budget has been diverted to simply fighting these massive fires, with much less funding left for replanting.
REDUCING WASTE FROM PLASTIC WATER BOTTLES (July 2008)
Recognizing that plastic water bottles are a big contributor to our carbon footprint in our viewing facilities, we are now offering clients the choice of bottled water or complimentary filtered water from the water dispensers that have been installed in every US facility. Many of our clients have already made this choice and we are significantly reducing waste in our facilities.
CHICAGO TEAM GET DIRTY AT THE GREEN FESTIVAL (July 2008)
Chicago recently hosted the Green Festival, a national sustainability event that welcomes more then 300 vendors, authors, organizations and speakers. We were able to provide eight enthusiastic go-green Schlesinger employees to help volunteer as part of the Green Team. Our volunteering service consisted of the glamorous tasks of managing and sorting the various recycling, compost, and trash stations that were set up across the festival hall. It was a messy job, but it was well worth it!
